Halloween Issue 2008 Launches!

It’s that wonderful time of year: the leaves are turning and falling, the air is crisp, and the ghosts and goblins are out in force. ShadeWorks has some terrific shorts this Halloween—Trolls, vampires, and zombies galore, and murder most just!

This is a special issue, not only because it’s our prime-time, but because it is the first issue to feature artwork! The wonderful work of Will Jacques is on display for your delight.

Also, as you may have noticed, ShadeWorks has a new design. I think it provides a cleaner, more sophisticated wrapper for the wonderful works within.

Thanks to all the writers and artists who have submitted their work, and thank you to all the readers. I hope you enjoy.

The wonderful Mayra Calvani interviewed yours truly as part of her “Spine Chillin’ Interviews” series for BlogCritics. It’s great to see ShadeWorks getting this kind of recognition, and I have no doubt it will add to our readership and submissions. If you’re new, head on over to the latest issue.

In other news, there are 11 days remaining to get your submissions in by the October 13th deadline. The Halloween Issue is going to be our best yet.

To all the fine Horror and Dark Fantasy writers stopping by, you have until October 13th to enter your submissions for the Halloweeen Issue. Naturally, anything after this will be considered for the following issue, but this is the big one! We have already had some wonderful submissions, and we look forward to many more.

Volume 1 Issue 2 Launches!

The second issue of ShadeWorks is live! Thank you to all the writers who submitted their work. I’m proud to say that the rate of submissions and the readership of ShadeWorks have both increased dramatically since launch. I hope they continue to grow, and I hope to expand ShadeWorks to include illustrations and, possibly, reviews. But enough of that, let’s get to the stories.

This issue features works from Trost, T. Richard Williams, Michael Subjack, and Lori Titus. Find out just how much of a beast an overbearing boss can be, see the extremes of envy compounded, dive into a child’s curiosity and fear, and learn a new use for a popular child’s toy.

Because ShadeWorks is still fairly new and growing, I’m going to plan for the next issue to be the Halloween issue. So to all you writers of dark fiction: get to writing and submit your work! And to our wonderful readers, I hope you enjoy this issue.

ShadeWorks Launches!

We’re thrilled to announce the official launch of ShadeWorks with our first issue! Due to some (now-resolved) hosting issues, it has taken longer than we hoped. Now that we’re up and running, we hope to publish a new issue each month, but that depends on the number of submissions we receive! So, to all you authors: get writing!

This issue’s dark tales range from the supernatural to the all-too-real. We feature the works of T. Richard Williams, Robin Hutton, and Byard Clemmons. So grab a cup of something, print them out if you like, sit back and enjoy.
